“In order to write about life, first you must live it.” ~ Ernest Hemingway
March is here! Can you believe it? Before I can wrap my brain around everything I have planned for this month, I thought I might recap some of the fun things I have been up to since the beginning of the year.
As much fun as I had ringing in the New Year, January ended with a bang at the Real Housewives of Potomac screening party. Sip With Socialites hosted the party at Oz Restaurant to celebrate the Bravo debut of former beauty queen Ashley Darby.
This was a rare occasion when I was not there to work, but simply to enjoy myself. I had a great time mingling with the Real Housewives, sipping (Hibiscus Rose was my cocktail of choice), eating (all the appetizers were delish) and posing for more photos than necessary. I even snagged a $50 gift certificate during trivia. #Winning
Next up, was a Chinese New Year Celebration at The John F. Kennedy Center with the fam. Every year we honor the Vietnamese side of our family by finding a place to celebrate.
This was our first time at the Kennedy Center and though we didn’t love the parking situation (find on-street parking folks, don’t pay $20 to park in the garage), we cannot wait to head back for our next cultural outing.
Forecasts of an impending snowstorm on Valentines Day weekend prompted me to treat my love to an early V-Day dinner at (you guessed it) Oz Restaurant.
The cocktails and kangaroo sliders were delectable. With attentive service, great cocktails, good music and affordable food – Oz is the perfect spot to gather with friends. I will be back!
Somehow, I managed to crank out a few fun episodes of “Your Healthy Blissful Life” on Blab. If you are not following me yet on Blab, head on over to the page for past and future episodes on health and wellness topics.
Along with discovering an obsession for wheatgrass (yes, I am odd like that), I found Hälsa – an adorable health food eatery in Brookland. I was fortunate enough to attend a free class on Mindful Eating led by holistic health coach Joanna Andreae.
I sampled green smoothies, bone broth, chia seed pudding and other deliciousness. More details on the blog.
[Trigger Warning] Amidst the shenanigans, I contributed an article to a new series on domestic violence and abuse for GoodHousekeeping.com. I hope you will share it with whoever needs to read it.
For the second year in a row, I attended Chance For Life, a premier charity fundraiser held at The Sphinx Club to benefit childhood cancer research. I am no gambler, so I typically show up after poker for the wine & chef demo and after party.
Though I missed the Champagne tasting this year (they had Whiskey tasting instead), the food was amazing, the photo booth was a nice addition and they could not have picked a better DJ. We stayed just long enough to eat, mingle, pose for photos and dance to a few numbers from the band. I even snagged a few gourmet cupcakes on the way out the door.
It was a blast and all proceeds benefited Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation and the Spinal Cord Tumor Association.
Last – but not least – I celebrated my little cha-cha’s 3rd birthday with a birthday brunch complete with grandma in tow. Nothing inspires me more than the joy I have gained from being her mom!
~ As you can see, I have been busy getting my life. It was a fast and fabulous start to 2016 and I hope to share more exciting news soon.
